What is performance psychology?

Often, the perception is that performance psychology is only for the elite high performer, usually athletes. However, performance psychology can help anyone who would like to improve, whether that be at work, in fitness, sport, or the arts. Performance psychology can provide the means for you to continually improve and as a result, become ‘better than you were before’, regardless of your starting point.

Dealing with motivation, communication, anxiety, confidence, cognition and emotion are among the challenges tackled in performance psychology. Kate can help you identify and manage problems that may impede your performance, as well as refine existing skills, and develop new ones. She can help with mental skill development, managing anxiety and stress, developing mental focus, team building and leadership, communication and conflict resolution.

As a performance psychologist, Kate uses interventions such as inner reflection, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), skills training and consultation & coaching, to help develop the mental states required to produce your optimal performance and equip you with the cognitive skills required to overcome and master challenging environments.

Kate trained in general psychology first and foremost, before going on to train in the area of performance across sport, exercise and other domains, including; business, performing arts, exam taking, navigating university and many others.
