Psychologist Alicia Firth has joined the Brisbane Wellbeing Psychologists team as of early February. Alicia is consulting here every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Alicia may be new to our team, but has had lots of experience in the field. With experience in non for profit settings, education, and private practices she loves working along side a broad range of clients.

She has multiple areas of speciality which include: Depression, Anxiety, Trauma and PTSD.

Let’s get to know the ‘real’ Alicia!

What is your all-time favourite band?

I love music so really couldn’t pick just one band! Live music outdoors is always great.

In a few words, why did you want to become a Psychologist?

From an early age I was always very curious with lots of questions- about everything- especially people, why we do what we do/think/feel etc…

And, perhaps more importantly I grew to develop a deep care for people, influenced I’m sure by the example of two parents who had devoted several years to community/missions focused efforts in Australia and overseas.

Do you have a favourite famous Psychologist?

Sigmund Freud- he provided such a foundation of knowledge for the field of psychology upon which we have built to this day. I also admire the pioneering work of Aaron Beck in the development of CBT, and the work of Lazarus & Folkman for their development of the Transactional Model of Stress and Coping.

Are you a dog or a cat person?

Dog- without question. I have two pugs. They are such unique, interesting, fun personalities and play an important role in our family, we would be lost without them.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

I’ve lived overseas, and I’m about to return home to Brisbane following two years in Canberra, and I would have to say without question Brisbane is home and holds a special place in my heart.
